Hermitage of Itxasperri

Situated on the historic Roman road 'Iter XXXIV' between Bordeaux and Astorga, which passed through Sakana, the Chapel of Santiago de Itxasperri is a late Romanesque church from the 13th century. Its semicircular apse, doorway with decorated archivolts and carved capitals, and 17th-century baptismal font reflect centuries of history. It served as the seat of the valley's councils and as a centre for fairs and brotherhoods, retaining its cultural significance today as a Site of Cultural Interest.
