MEMORIAL PARK
A monolith and thirteen oak trees pay tribute to the victims of the repression of 1936, providing a place for historical reflection near the castle.
Thirteen oak trees and a monolith commemorate the thirteen people murdered after the military coup of 1936 and all the villagers who suffered repression in its various forms. Engraved on the monolith are the names of those who lost their lives. These form the Historical Memorial Park in the garden near the castle.
To the names of those murdered must be added those imprisoned, including one interned at the Gurs camp, those who suffered economic repression, and the women who were humiliated and abused.
In 2016, the Ziordia Town Council formally recognised them as victims of the Francoist military coup and the subsequent repression they endured.
