TRAIN STATION

A former railway line converted into a greenway, ideal for walking and cycling, with a visitor centre and event venues.

Located at kilometre 36.6 of the route, this station shared the same building design as the others but also had a canopy covering the platform. The Plazaola Railway was a narrow-gauge line linking Pamplona with San Sebastián, popularly known as El Plazaola or Tren Txiki. It began as a mining railway carrying iron ore from the Plazaola mines to Andoain, where it connected for transport to the port of Pasajes. Built in the early 20th century, it later added passenger and parcel services. After severe flood damage in 1953, it ceased operations; the track was authorised for dismantling in 1958. In 1989 Lekunberri Town Council approved a feasibility study to convert the route into a greenway, and in 1991 the Government of Navarre declared it of public utility. The building is now the official headquarters of the Plazaola Tourism Consortium, with two rooms available for hire by groups and businesses.
