This first stage winds through the wooded landscapes of the Sierra de Urbasa, passing through well-preserved oak and beech forests along narrow paths that evoke the route's historical past. It passes waymarkers 1–14, climbs towards the Ataun boundary and descends along the historic road to the Urdiain municipal swimming pools, finishing near Urdiain church.
