The Gorostieta Pass divides the catchments of several streams flowing north into the River Ezkurra from those flowing south into the Basaburua.
The NA-4114 road links Orokieta (in Basaburua) with Saldias and Beintza-Labaien (north of the Belate range). The Sendero de Euskal Herria trail continues along the ridges of this range, almost entirely covered by beech woodland, except for clearings where bracken has colonised areas of degrading grassland.
